Become a Pattern Tester
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A PATTERN TESTER FOR CRAFTOVEBYT?
Pattern testing is an essential part of our design process. As a tester, you’ll receive an unpublished pattern to crochet, evaluate, and provide feedback on before its official release. Your role is to help ensure accuracy, clarity, and overall quality by checking for:
✔ Correct stitch counts, measurements, and fit
✔ Readability and ease of understanding
✔ Potential errors or inconsistencies
In return, you’ll be part of a collaborative creative process, gain early access to new designs, and receive a free final version of the pattern, along with an extra pattern of your choice as a thank-you for your time and effort.
Your feedback helps us deliver well-crafted, user-friendly patterns, and we truly appreciate your contributions!
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM OUR TESTERS?
- Follow the pattern instructions exactly as written and provide feedback on clarity, accuracy, and readability.
- Note any errors, inconsistencies, or areas that require improvement.
- Provide high-quality photos of the finished project.
- Complete the testing within the specified deadline.
- Maintain clear and professional communication throughout the process.
THE TESTING PROCESS
Pattern testing is a volunteer-based collaboration where skilled crocheters receive early access to a pattern before its official release. The primary goal is to crochet the item and provide detailed feedback on yardage, measurements, fit, and overall usability.
At the conclusion of the testing period, participants will be required to complete a structured feedback form, which will be provided at the start of the test. Additionally, in most cases, testers must submit high-quality photos of the finished item being worn, allowing us to evaluate fit and design accuracy.
What We Expect During Testing
Throughout the testing process, testers may identify and suggest improvements for:
- Stitch counts and pattern accuracy
- Spelling, grammar, and formatting corrections
- Readability and ease of instructions
All feedback will be collected using a shared online PDF hosted on Google Drive, where testers can leave comments, view existing discussions, and access real-time pattern updates.
Communication & Support
All testers will be added to a dedicated Instagram group chat for easy communication. This serves as a space to:
- Ask for clarification when needed
- Discuss color choices and yarn recommendations
- Stay updated on pattern revisions
Pattern Testing Timeline
We strive to set realistic deadlines that allow testers to work comfortably without feeling rushed while ensuring timely pattern releases. Our typical testing timelines are:
- 2–3 weeks → Accessories and small items
- 6–7 weeks → Sleeveless tops and lightweight garments
- 7–10 weeks → Sweaters with sleeves
- 10–14 weeks → Large-scale projects (dresses, blankets, etc.)
Commitment & Communication
We understand that unexpected circumstances may arise, making it difficult to complete a pattern test. If you anticipate any delays, communication is key. Please inform us as soon as possible if you are unable to meet the deadline so we can adjust accordingly.
Your participation is essential to ensuring our patterns meet the highest standards. We appreciate your time, effort, and dedication in helping us refine our designs!
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS A PATTERN TESTER

- For wearable items, at least one photo of the item being worn is required (except for toddler sizes, where flat-lay images are acceptable).

- Only unedited photos should be submitted.
- Testers grant CraftrovebyT permission to use these images on our blog, pattern listings, and social media, with proper credit given to the maker whenever possible.
📢 Social Media Sharing:
- When posting progress or final photos on social media, please use the design-specific hashtag and credit @CraftrovebyT as the designer.
Copyright & Confidentiality
- Testers must not share, distribute, or publish the pattern in any form, whether partially or in full.
